Furthermore, climate change affects the atmospheric currents that function to direct the movement of typhoons. Changes in wind patterns can cause typhoons to rotate more slowly or even stay in one location, increasing residence time and damaging impacts. For example, Hurricane Harvey, which hit Texas in 2017, caused severe flooding because it moved slowly. Not only that, changes in rainfall patterns are also an effect of climate change which can trigger a more intense frequency of storms. Research shows that certain regions, such as the Philippines, are facing an increase in the frequency of high-intensity typhoons. This threatens food security and access to water resources in the area. Apart from the physical impact, the increasing frequency of typhoons also affects social and economic conditions. People living in typhoon-prone areas are becoming increasingly vulnerable. Loss of property, displacement, and psychological impacts often accompany disasters caused by typhoons. The government’s required recovery budget continues to increase, which could burden the local economy. Mitigation policies are urgently needed to face this challenge. Stakeholders around the world, including international organizations and local governments, must work together to strengthen infrastructure, improve early warning systems, and prepare emergency response plans that can reduce damage from typhoons. Sustainable approaches, such as reducing carbon emissions and investing in renewable energy, also play an important role in addressing the causes of climate change that exacerbate typhoon frequency. With these steps, it is hoped that we can mitigate the impact of climate change on typhoon frequency, protecting human life and the environment.
