How to Play Poker

Poker

Poker is an international gambling game, played with a deck of cards. The aim of the game is to build a pot of money and win it by having the highest ranked hand of cards. It can be played with any number of players, and can be played in a casino or at home.

The game is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. Players place chips in a pot and bet until someone calls. If no one else calls, the winner takes the pot.

Each player is dealt five cards. The first card is face up, and the rest are dealt face down. Cards are arranged in order of their rank, starting with the Ace. Occasionally, a wild card is used. This card, if it is placed in a hand, can take the place of another card.

The lowest possible hand is 7-5-4-3-2. In a tie, the winner is the player with the highest unmatched fifth card.

After the initial bet, each player may bet again, or call. If no one raises, the player who last made a bet is said to fold.

When the first betting interval has finished, the dealer shuffles the cards. They are then distributed to the players in turn. During this period, the dealer may offer to shuffle the cards again.

During the third round, each active player is given one card face up. The player with the highest card has the privilege of making the first bet.
