Players at poker tables are usually armed with chips. Unless you are playing with a smaller number of people, you should provide poker chips to every player in the game. The chip value varies, but the white chip is the lowest. In a game of poker, a red chip is worth five whites and a blue chip is worth two, four, or five reds. The players in the game “buy in” to the game by purchasing chips. They usually buy in for the same amount as the remaining players.
Players place an ante on the pot before they reveal their hands. Each player is dealt five cards. When a player has the best five-card combination, that hand wins the pot. When players are tied in a hand, the winning player shows his hand to the rest of the players. If the players are still tied, another round of betting occurs. If no one has a winning hand, the remaining players collect the pot. The winning hand is known as a high-hand.
In addition to the poker game, there are also other variants. Three-card brag evolved from Primero, a gentleman’s game. It is still popular today in the U.K. However, Poker is almost always played in a more advanced form. In fact, three-card brag, the game of poker with fewer than five cards, is called a “three-card brag” in the U.S.
